- FLIGHT DAY THREE

- The crew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery was awakened
- this morning just prior to 1 a.m. central time to the sounds
- of the United States Coast Guard Hymn, honoring mission
- specialist Bruce Melnick and the Coast Guard bicentennial.

- Crew commander Dick Richards and Discovery pilot Bob Cabana
- have a busy day on the flight deck to look forward to with a
- number of orbital maneuvers planned to support a variety of
- test objectives and continued SSBUV operations conducted by
- Melnick and mission specialist Tom Akers.

- Mission specialist Bill Shepherd will team with Melnick to
- perform the second of three planned demonstrations of the
- Voice Command System, continuing to explore the effects of
- microgravity on voice characteristics and the viability of
- voice recognition commanding systems in space.

- All systems aboard Discovery continue to function without
- flaw, leaving the crew and flight controllers in Houston to
- concentrate all efforts on the science and research
- objectives of the mission.
